This summer, a woman came to us asking for help with a debt collector who was taking money from her bank account. In the past few years, the woman had experienced a range of health issues and was no longer able to pay her debts.
The woman’s only source of income was social security, disability, and child support payments, which she relied on for necessities.
In June, the debt collector seized money from our client’s bank account, even though the money taken was from social security, disability, and child support payments, which should have been protected. In total, the debt collector took over $800.00 from our client’s bank account.
Even when our client provided proof of the source of her funds, the debt collector refused to return our client’s money. We caught the debt collector wrongfully taking our client’s money and filed a lawsuit on her behalf.

We reached an agreement with the debt collector and our client’s debt was forgiven, the garnishment of her money was stopped, and all of her money was returned.
